Madrid - A Spanish town which celebrates an annual Octopus Festival has requested that Paul, the "psychic" octopus who predicted Spain's World Cup win, be allowed to join them as a guest of honour this year.

Carlos Montes, major of O Carballino, in the northwestern Galicia region, said they hoped the eight-legged oracle would be allowed by aquarium staff in Oberhuasen, Germany to travel to their festival on August 8.

Paul has already been rewarded with honorary citizenship of ...

Most Germans would prefer watching their team contesting the World Cup final than having sex with their partners, a survey here has revealed.

Should Joachim Loew's side reach the final in Johannesburg on July 11, a potential night of passion would be shown the red card by most Germans in favour of the chance to see their team in action on television.

In a survey for the Reader's Digest magazine, only five percent of those questioned would prefer a night between the sheets with their loved ...

Handrails at Port Elizabeth's 2010 soccer stadium are potentially lethal, according to an architect who has surveyed all the World Cup venues.

Phillip Thompson, who carried out the survey as a consultant for Disabled People SA, told Sapa that the handrails in the 48 000-seater Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium were "fundamentally dangerous".

He said the rails were flat, rather than round, and "sharp".

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee says the physicality and high workrate of his players are foremost amongst the key attributes which have helped to get them through to the Super 14 final next weekend.

New Zealand rally driver Mark Tapper experienced an offbeat form of audience participation during the Rally New Zealand earlier this month.

Tapper was driving his WRC Mitsubishi Evo when a spectator who had strategically placed himself on the inside of a corner decided to give the driver a show of appreciation.

The spectator whipped down his trousers to give the Kiwi a night rally experience. Tapper responded to driving in the glare of the moon by overcorrecting on the corner and turning ...
