n the 1970s video games were considered a niche market with a small cult following. Now though, with unbelievably realistic graphics and gameplay, the video games industry has grown to an $11.7 billion business. Despite the increased revenue and fanbase this hasn’t stopped some truly bizarre releases over the years. Below is a countdown of the weirdest games to come out.

It’s been a long 12 year wait for the follow up to arguably the most successful RTS game yet made. Today that wait is over. Well, actually it ends tomorrow, because even though we received our StarCraft II review copy today, the online authentication will only unlock tomorrow and we are under strict instructions to only install the game after 12AM, July 27.

The standard StarCraft II packaging features snazzy embossing on a richly detailed cardboard cover.

Lionhead producer George Backer has announced that Fable III will be packed with 460,000 words. It is assumed that those aren’t different words, because that would just be crazy. Not that 460,000 words isn’t crazy.

This is definitely one of those articles where pretty much all the information is revealed in the headline.

Some actors confirmed to be lending their voices to in-game characters are John Clees, Sir Ben Kingsley and Stephen Fry.

Game development veteran Tim Schafer, giving a talk at Develop 2010, has confirmed that there won't be a sequel to Brutal Legend.

Their first title was 2005's critically acclaimed Psychonauts, which was dropped by Microsoft before eventually being published by Majesco Entertainment. ...

The big hype at this year’s E3 is, of course, motion controlling. Nintendo has been doing it for years, but the new players in the game, Sony and Microsoft, will soon be joining in. As for PC gamers... well once again they are left out in the cold.

So, you might be sneering at this invasion of the so called “casual” method of playing games into the so called “hardcore” market, but I’m here to tell you that this is a good thing. Motion controlled products are awesome! Here’s ...

One of EA’s biggest games at this year’s E3 event was Dead Space 2. Rarely was the queue to its closed door booth anything less than an ominous proposition for exhibition goers.

The ten minutes of gameplay shown off during the preview were impressive. While it would have been easy to simply churn out more of the features that made Dead Space an instant classic, Visceral opted to push further, introducing new aspects of gameplay to the series. More varied environments are now present, ...

One of my most anticipated games at E3 2010 was EA’s Medal of Honor reboot. EA may be blatantly following Activision’s lead by taking the franchise to a modern setting, but Dice makes great multiplayer games and it should at least be interesting to see what they come up with.

Firstly, don’t expect it to feel like any Medal of Honor game you have played before. Much like how Call of Duty 4 alienated itself from its predecessors, Medal of Honor does the same by embracing the recently popularised ...

My first impression of the playable code was that is bears a stark similarity to GTA, with the primary exception being that it is set in the 1940’s. Oh, and you are part of an organised crime ring as opposed to a lone ranger with no real ties to anyone.

Look, trees! But Crysis 2 has Richard Morgan aboard, and because I’m such a slut for his stuff, I’m shamelessly swapping sides for the sequel. I’m consistent like that.

The instruments have always played a big part of the music rhythm game experience, for me personally. While some will always scorn the playing of a game with a peripheral that looks like an actual instrument, this mocking is about to get much, much worse in the upcoming game by Activision: Guitar Hero 6: Warriors of Rock.

This whole “VIP Map Pack” thing is a bit of a sham, really. I mean, memo to EA: We kinda noticed you’re just unlocking additional modes on, you know, the same maps.
Lately there has been a bit of talk about the addictive nature of video gaming as well as its effects on crime levels. As a visitor of MyGaming, you probably don't need to be told how rewarding and how much fun video gaming can be. Unfortunately there is a dark side to the pastime that occasionally rears its head in the form of neglect, life threatening addiction, violent outbursts, organised crime and even prostitution.
Now, I'm no wimpled puritan preaching everlasting hellfire for fornicators. Actually, I have – disturbingly to some, it's turned out on occasion – very liberal views about sex. But whenever I see a game rated “Mature” for sexual content, I can't help but cringe in dreadful anticipation. It's not so much that I object to sex in games on principle, but rather that – just now, at least – it's all so, well, immature.

Cost of the game - PS3 = R600. XBox 360 = R600. XBox 360 + 1 = R20
