Ok Guys so a mate of mine asked me about going over to the UK and all that... Now I have my Ancestry Visa for the UK but my mate is also keen on going over is he allowed to piggy back off mine as a dependent or what is allowed to happen?

The UK Border Agency has introduced fingerprint checks at the border for passengers with biometric UK visas, entry clearances and identity cards for foreign nationals (ICFNs). This is being introduced incrementally at ports across the United Kingdom by March 2010.

The purpose of these checks is to verify that the individual entering the United Kingdom is the same person who applied for their visa, entry clearance or ICFN. Using fingerprints enables us to do this with greater certainty.

The fingerprint checks are an additional tool to verify identity; passengers will still be asked standard immigration related questions on arrival in the United Kingdom as normal. If the fingerprint check reveals any queries around identity, these matters may be resolved through an interview, but this will not routinely be required.

Children age 6 and over are required to provide their fingerprints for checks however a responsible adult must be present when fingerprints are captured from children under the age of 16. The UK Border Agency delivers visa services working in partnership with VFS Global. All visa applications will need to be lodged through one of VFS visa application centres. NB: The British High Commission announces that, with effect from 1 July 2009, all South African passport holders wishing to visit the UK are required to obtain a visit visa before travelling. This announcement effectively removes the visa exemption that was in place for those South African passport holders who had previously visited the UK using their current passport.

All UK visa applications in South Africa need to be submitted online and an appointment booked to visit one of our VFS application centres. This is a straightforward procedure that allow customers to complete their visa form online, choose a convenient appointment time/date and to pay online. The customer will then take a printout of their online form to the VFS office. This revised process help customers receive a faster and more efficient service when applying for their UK visa. Applications must be completed and appointments booked online using the www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk website.

Applicants also have the option of paying online (with a credit or debit card) when completing their online application form. Existing payment options of paying in advance at any branch of Nedbank or at an application centre by bank guaranteed cheque will remain in place however customers who do pay at Nedbank must bring proof of their payment to the VFS application centre when they attend their appointment.

The VFS application centres in South Africa have recently relocated to newer and larger premises and have revised their opening times for the submission of applications to 08:00 to 15:00 hrs Monday to Friday. The British High Commission adds that the agents should always double check with the airline to determine whether or not a transit visa is required as it will depend on the transit time between flights.
