1 Tablet PC deals comparison – September 2011 on Fri Sep 09, 2011 11:19 am

Where can you get the best 7- to 10-inch capacitive touch bang for your almighty buck?

With the advent of Apple’s iPad, the tablet PC has become a highly sought-after gadget.

While Apple basically had the market to themselves until Google could produce a tablet-optimised version of their Android mobile operating system, competition in the SA market has heated up in recent months.

I have used a tablet and I have to say it is the worst thing ever, they are just making money off of people who like to look ahead of the game. . .

We have a drifta and I can watch the rugby on my work laptop, burn dvd's hdmi output and it has wi-fi and multi touch pad- not tft screen but like I said: it is more of an image thing than an actual working tool.

LIES the battery life on it is way more then a laptop its a hell of alot easier to carry around then a laptop it also has wifi and 3g(pending which version) and you can use it while walking or doing pretty much anything which you cant with a laptop !

May be an older joke - but some of this is still valid, and for the comparison to be made in the first place. . .

The point of the joke pics was to show how limited the iPad was compared to an ancient hieroglyphic tablet.

The only tablet thing i would buy is the thing Tony Stark uses in IM2 or in the windows 7 promo video - which is basically a piece of glass that can read any surface and connect to the internet instantly and show you news regarding the image you just scanned, until then I will pass on this touch screen phase

Battery life - less hardware = more battery
Carry weight - fair point
3g/wifi - this one i would go the laptop route - 3g is relative to usb slots which also gives me more functionality - more HDD or even optical drives
Walking - both types can be used in a sitting position - only walking has a slight advantage - you can't use a tablet on an airplane so not really a significant improvement.

O ja laptop strong points-

Drives
Keyboard
USB/Card reader/ LAN and Firewire - if you use it I don't
Better hardware

Most pads do come with usb slots now
You can use a tablet on a airplane
most tablets do come with card readers
And you get a Keyboard cover aswell for tablets

I have had the same Cell C contract for the past 9 years and was happy for 8 of those years but this last year and a half they really dropped the ball so I will be changing come January

I had to test one for the company to see if it is viable to replace the reps laptops.
what a waste of time.
Don't get me wrong it is a great toy, it is perfect for watching movies, checking the odd email and playing angry birds.
That is about all it is good for.
Try typing on that thing, yes you get a keyboard you can plug in but then its a netbook, plus you have to carry around all the extras.
Plus the drive is so small there is no space for your movies.

My verdict = great toy, get one if you can afford it and you already have a real pc.
